A Different Type of Test

Students become very accustomed to tests in high school.  No matter what the format, from essay to multiple choice, tests are common and students are familiar with them.  The ACT or SAT, then, might seem like just another test.  This is not the case, and knowing the differences of a standardized test can change the way students approach it.

The answers on the tests will always be different, but the types of questions are commonly the same.  The numbers, words, or graphs will vary on each test but students can acquire the basic premise of the test and the types of questions.  This means students can study for the test and figure out how to solve the problems in advance.  Knowing where commas go ahead of time and how to read a graph will lead to a higher test score.

Some institutions offer tutoring for the tests, and students looking to improve their score should definitely consider this option.  Sitting down with an ACT or SAT tutor can be greatly beneficial because students learn three critical things: they can learn confidence, they can learn what their weaknesses are, and they can learn the format of the test and timing of the different sections.

Students can retake the test.  Unlike most of the other exams encountered in high school, the ACT can be taken multiple times and the best score is selected.  Some other circumstances for scoring can be arranged through the prospective college.
